Is your bathroom cramped? Many modern homes all built with very little space and fitting a complete bathroom suite in them can be tricky. Many of the toilet manufacturers have come up with a good solution to this in the shape of compact toilets. All the major toilet manufacturers like Toto, American Standard, Kohler, and Porcher are producing a nice line in toilets specifically designed to fit into a small room.
These toilets come in a number of guises, including the corner toilets which have a triangular shape to the toilet tank, thus allowing it to fit neatly into the corner of a room, tank-less toilets which use a pump to get rid of the waste and allow the toilet to sit much closer to the wall, and compact toilets which are specially designed to have a smaller footprint than the standard toilet would.
I have installed one of these compact toilet units into a second bathroom in my home and have found it to be an excellent product, doing everything a standard sized toilet would. If you like the idea of a tank-less toilet you may be interested in the Kohler purist hatbox toilet, but you will need a good-sized budget to afford one. Retailing for just under US $3000, this toilet looks like nothing you will have ever seen before. In fact, when I first saw it reminded me of a pedal bin, but it's a little bit better than that.
With sleek lines and a powerful flushing system, the hatbox toilet is designed with a minimalist feel and would look good in any modern home or executive suite. They can often be found in the best rooms in the best hotels.
There are however much cheaper alternatives, and you can pick up a compact toilets design for around $300. It may not be as pretty as some of the high end products, but it will have low water consumption per flush, and the clean look that will improve the aesthetics of any bathroom.
The only thing about these toilets is that they are often low level units and if you are tall or elderly you may find sitting on and getting off them a little bit of a struggle. I have always favored the slightly taller toilets, due to the fact that I am 6 foot three in height. Luckily, with two bathrooms, we have been up to accommodate both types of toilet, and this is the ideal scenario.
